Mike Watson

Mike has owned and operated the store since 1985 and helped 1000's of people own a bike and enjoy cycling. He rides on and off-road and is well known for his passion for tandem riding.

Mike and his team organise many well known local cycling events that cater for all abilities of rider, from novice to racer.

Non cycling hobbies: water sports, snow boarding, local wines.

Favourite ride(s): out to Cable Bay
Favourite race: Around Brunner (by tandem of course).

Brent

Brent is the longest serving member of the Avantiplus Nelson Team having helped countless customers for the last 20 years.

He carefully pre-assembles and checks many of our new bikes, helps out in the workshop and keeps the shop looking neat and tidy.

Brent commutes to the store on his bike every day and also rides some of the local mountain bike trails.


     
     

Chris

Chris runs our workshop and is a Shimano Certified Mechanic. He has raced BMX, cross country and road and so has a very broad range of cycling experience.

If you just need a service or have a mechanical problem with your bike, bring it into the shop and talk to Chris.

PS He is well known for being able to explain things in plain english and not technical jargon !!

Greg

Greg has helped Avantiplus Nelson's customers since 2003. His passion is Downhill racing but he also enjoys trail riding and has recently started road riding. He also has done extensive touring in NZ.

Favourite ride: Dun Mountain Walkway\Dew Lakes

     
   

Mitchell

Michell joined Avantiplus Nelson in early 2008.  His friendly, outgoing nature has made him a big hit during public events such as the opening of the Atawai cyclepath.

He is a keen club road racer, competing at the highest level in local events. Being involved in cycling as a sport means that Mitchell is expert in:-
  • bike selection and fit
  • clothing choice
  • nutrition
Favourite ride: Any hard A-grade race!

     
 
 

Niel

Niel is a keen road rider and cyclo-tourist having ridden with his wife on their bikes around NZ, Australia and all over Europe. He is also an endurance rider having competed in the annual Christchurch to Nelson race and occasionally rides the local club races.

If you want to discuss long distance cycling then ask for Niel in the shop - he will be happy to help.
Niel recently road from Perth to Sydney and is planning his next long ride down the West coast of USA on MTB tracks.

Favourite ride: over Takaka Hill to Golden Bay and Farewell Spit.
